Our Story

How We Look at a Deck Job

We build, repair and refinish decks for homeowners across Port Charlotte and the surrounding Gulf Coast. Some of us came up framing houses, some came up in finish carpentry, and decks are where that work ends up outdoors, in the weather, taking a beating from sun and storms year-round.

If you're here because a board gave way underfoot or a railing post has started to lean, that's a framing problem, not a cosmetic one. We check the ledger board and joists for rot before we touch the decking, because a deck that looks fine on top can still be rotten where the lag bolts go in. We replace what's compromised and reuse what's solid, so you're not paying to rebuild a frame that didn't need it.

Why Choose Us

What you get when you hire us

None of this is complicated. It is mostly just doing what we said we would do.

Licensed & Insured

We carry the insurance a deck job calls for, from footings to framing to the final board. Ask for certificates before we start and we'll have them ready.

Permits & Code

Decks over a certain height or attached to the house need a permit and an inspection in most of our service area, and we handle that paperwork. Skipping it can cost you when you go to sell the house.

Clean Job Site

Deck demo leaves a lot of nails and splinters in the grass, and we don't leave that for you or your dog to find. The yard gets raked and the debris gets hauled the same day we're done.

Written Quotes

The quote lists the lumber grade, the hardware and the square footage, so you know what you're paying for. No verbal estimates that change once the trailer's already on-site.

On-Time Builds

A deck crew that no-shows for three days is a common complaint in this trade. We schedule one job at a time so your project doesn't sit half-built waiting on us.

Local to SWFL

We've worked on decks from Punta Gorda to Venice and seen what salt air and afternoon storms do to untreated wood. That's why we're particular about fasteners and sealant, even on the parts nobody sees.

Common Questions

Things people ask us

Questions about who's actually doing the work.

How long have you been building decks?
Experience in deck construction and repair spans wood framing, composite installation and the Florida permitting process, with work done across Port Charlotte and the surrounding Gulf Coast towns.
Do you use your own crew or subcontractors?
Deck framing and installation is handled by an in-house crew rather than subcontracted out, so the people who quote the job are generally the ones building it.
Can I see photos of decks you've built before?
Photos of completed deck and railing work are available on request, including examples of composite installations and screened enclosures.
Why choose a smaller deck builder over a large company?
A smaller deck builder generally means more direct communication with the person actually building your deck, rather than going through layers of office staff.
Where is Nova Deck Co based?
Nova Deck Co is based in Port Charlotte, Florida, and works throughout the surrounding Gulf Coast area.
Do you take on larger or commercial deck projects?
Most work is residential decks and lanais, though larger multi-unit or commercial deck projects can be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
Do you clean up after a deck job is finished?
Old decking, packaging and construction debris are hauled away the same day the work wraps up, so the yard isn't left with a pile of scrap lumber.
What happens if something gets damaged on my property during the work?
Liability insurance covers accidental damage to the property during a deck build or repair, and any incident gets addressed directly rather than left for the homeowner to chase down.
Will you finish a deck that another contractor started or left unfinished?
Taking over a partly finished deck is possible, but the existing framing and work gets inspected first to confirm it's sound enough to build on top of.
How can a homeowner tell deck work is being done correctly?
Deck framing should follow span tables for the joist size and spacing used, railings should meet the 36 to 42 inch height and 4 inch baluster gap code, and a permitted job gets a final inspection that checks exactly that.
